We're up & running!
2020 surprised us in unimaginable ways. The COVID-19 pandemic put the world on pause and tested governments’ digital capabilities to respond to its citizens' needs. All of a sudden, the digital divide became more evident, as countries sprinted forward with nation-wide initiatives to enable homeschooling and remote work, and with public-private partnerships sought to support the digitization of SMEs, in some places, while juggling a reality of insufficient infrastructure, connectivity, and digital leadership.
In line with the new reality, the urge for a transformation and transition to a digital society became a top priority, as did the need for decision makers, policy practitioners, and politicians to deepen their understanding of digital technologies as enablers for economic recovery, and as a tool to respond to shared social challenges.
Among the many learnings offered by 2020, we’ll remember that every challenge comes with an opportunity. With that in mind, we are proud to announce that we are up and running as the first spinout from C Minds, emphasizing the need for agile policies and flexible regulation to cope with the accelerated development and adoption of technology.
The Public Interest Technology or PIT Policy Lab is an organization focused on tech policy development, backed by years of experience in the field. The PIT Policy Lab is designed to continue crafting solutions to complex global challenges through practical research, policy insights, and the drafting of proofs of concept.
As a new year begins, we are beyond excited to learn from and add value to the Latin American tech scene, in particular to the GovTech and Civic Tech ecosystems. Stay tuned to learn more about upcoming PIT Policy Lab projects and collaborations with C Minds and other organizations leading the digital realm in the Global South.
PIT Policy Lab: Tecnología al Servicio del Interés Público
El 2020 nos sorprendió de maneras inimaginables. La pandemia por COVID-19 pausó al mundo entero y puso a prueba las capacidades digitales de gobiernos para responder a las necesidades de la ciudadanía. En un abrir y cerrar de ojos, la brecha digital se acentuó aún más, con países echando a andar iniciativas para facilitar el trabajo remoto, la educación a distancia y trabajando de la mano del sector privado para digitalizar a pequeñas y medianas empresas, mientras que otros se quedaron atrás por la falta de infraestructura, conectividad y liderazgo digital.
En línea con la nueva realidad, la urgencia por materializar la transformación digital y la transición a una sociedad digital se hicieron evidentes, lo mismo la necesidad de profundizar el conocimiento de tomadores de decisión, políticos y profesionales de las políticas públicas respecto a tecnologías como herramientas habilitadoras para responder a retos compartidos como la recuperación económica y creación de empleos.
De las muchas lecciones que nos dejó 2020, una de ellas fue que los retos vienen con oportunidades. En este sentido, nos enorgullece anunciar que surgimos como el primer spinout de C Minds, haciendo énfasis en la necesidad de contar con políticas públicas ágiles y regulación flexible para hacer frente al desarrollo tecnológico acelerado.
El Laboratorio de Políticas de Tecnología de Interés Público o PIT Policy Lab es una organización enfocada en el desarrollo de políticas públicas de tecnología que construye sobre más de diez años de experiencia cimentada en resultados. El Laboratorio fue diseñado para crear soluciones a problemas globales complejos a través de investigación práctica, recomendaciones de política pública y desarrollo de pruebas de concepto.
Con el inicio de un nuevo año, nos entusiasma la posibilidad de aprender de y añadir valor al ecosistema digital de América Latina y a los movimientos GovTech y CivicTech.
